Mpop Quick Review: Wild Cursive (狂草) by HanGeng (韓庚)

Wild Cursive, aka Kuang Cao, aka 狂草 is Hangeng’s newest single from his upcoming 2nd Chinese solo album (*will update as soon as info is released and translated :P).

POINTS

  • The lyrics are incredibly unique and fierce!
  • The song has a semi-epic fight feel to it (I say ‘semi-epic’, for it is energetic enough to fight in (?), but it’s chill enough so that your blood isn’t boiling over).
  • Their weapons of choice in terms of fighting that smoke/ink business are quite amusing hahaha.
  • The song, the video… It is all so interesting!

POINTS

  • Their hair… I thought I had enough with Fantastic Baby…
  • It’s a mid tempo listen: DJs, look elsewhere for energetic kpop.
  • Agh, this song is so angsty!
  • I LOVE the lyrics though…
  • The video was pretty creepy and scary… Yet, it has interesting details that had me watching again and again as I tried to catch all the minor details (and hairstyles)…
  • The lyrics… It’s like Beauty and the Beast and The Hunchback of Notre Dame combined.

Kpop Quick Review: Electric Shock by f(x)

Electric Shock is the title track of f(x)’s 2nd mini album “Electric Shock”.

POINTS

  • NANANANANANANA
  • Strong choreography.
  • I was expecting Amber to rap… When she started belting out those notes, it totally threw me off!
  • Maybe this was just me… But f(x) seems to like long hair in this song (minus Amber of course).
  • SM needs to take off the FREAKING ADS off of their music videos…
  • f(x) is BEGGING for some cheeseburgers! They’re so thin!
  • Maybe I think this way because it’s a pop song… But is it just me, or is everyone getting more lines, yet managing to sound good?!

Kpop Review: La-Di Da-Di by CROSS GENE

(It has been a while hasn’t it? My apologies… I will still be busy this summer, but there will definitely be some new music reviews! – Izzy)

La-Di Da-Di is CROSS GENE’s debut track from their first mini album “Timeless: Begins”.

(left to right: Casper, Yongsuk, Shin, Takuya, Sangmin, and J.G.)

POINTS

  • A composition of 1 Japanese, 2 Chinese, and 3 Korean guys? Completely digging this.
  • Super catchy song.
  • Super…. Interesting…. Choreography…..
  • Are half of the members part time acrobats/ninjas/bboys?!
  • Powerful and distinct voices! Wow!
  • The most Engrish song I have heard this year of 2012… In fact, it feels like 30-50% of the song is Engrish, haha.
